Sony-Ericsson Satio™ Mobile Phone Review

The Good:
-	Extremely high (12.1 megapixel) camera quality
-	Mobile access to TV, podcasts and music
-	3.5 inch touchscreen display

The Bad:
-	Frequent use of multimedia functions drains battery quickly
-	No 3.5mm (standard size) headphone jack

One of Sony-Ericsson’s latest offerings is the Satio™ ‘visual communicator’. Introduced February 2009, the Satio™ is being marketed as an all-in-one communication hub. Says Sony-Ericsson Market Business Manager Fredrik Mansson, ‘With Satio you can enjoy any form of entertainment anytime, anywhere. Whether its music or movies you will never be more than a tap away from your favourite tracks or shows.’

The Satio’s™ entertainment features are its main attraction. Users can download podcasts and watch Youtube videos on the 3.4 inch, 360 x 640 pixel screen. Music lovers are well looked after, with the Satio™ using the same easy music library navigation as Sony’s Walkman range. Games can be downloaded with a tap of the finger using the PlayNow™ centre.

The 12.1 megapixel camera has auto-focus and smile detection for simple photo taking. Fancier camera features include Xenon flash, night mode, auto-stabiliser and the ability to Geo-tag pictures. Some users were unhappy with the shutter speed, which averages 1.4 seconds.

An onscreen touch QWERTY keyboard, made popular by the iPhone, provides quick and easy messaging. The touchscreen has been reported to need a firmer ‘tap’ than some, but this could be seen as a positive as typos are reduced.

At first glance the Satio™ may seem to belong with business phones such as the iPhone and Nokia's N97. But with fun features and a multitude of media options the Satio™ is setting a benchmark for a new league of mobile entertainment devices.

Specifications for the Sony-Ericsson Satio™:
Networks: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 & HSDPA 2100
Dimensions: 112 x 55 x 13mm Weight 126gms
The phone ships with Nokia’s new messaging client, which features push delivery for all accounts. 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a 3.2-megapixel camera.

[attachment=2]Mobile Phone: Nokia E63
Price: $499

The Good
•Competitive Price
•Easy To Use
•Good Connectivity
•QWERTY Keypad
•Business Functions
•Long Battery Life
The Bad
•Scaled Down Camera

The E63 Nokia is slightly larger than the comparable E71 even though it has fewer features. However, it is still a compact and pocket-friendly phone. The QWERTY keypad will have people thinking it costs three times more than what you paid for it. The build quality is to the usual Nokia standard (high quality), and you have the choice of Ruby Red or Ultramarine Blue plastic covers. While the E71 utilised steel covers, the E63 sports solid matt plastic that will suit most users just fine. The soft rubber keypad is easy to use, and the dedicated programmable function keys and navigation pad make perusing this phone a pleasure.

Connectivity
The Nokia E63 features almost all the connectivity options you could want. That includes 2G, 3G, Bluetooth, USB and WiFi. The only exception is HSDPA, but for business applications, we think most users will barely notice. It will slow downloads for heavy mobile internet browsing (videos, streaming), and its an individual choice when deciding if this affects you. For many people, it should not be a major concern.

Camera

The 2 megapixel camera is downgraded from the 3 megapixel unit found on the E71, it does work well under good conditions where there is plenty of light.

Messaging and internet use is this mobiles strong point. The full keyboard-style pad makes messaging a breeze. The Nokia web browser works as well as ever on the wide screen, and there are all the supported formats you need to surf the web.

At the Office
The E63s calendar and organiser functions do almost everything except complete the actual tasks for you. You can make multimedia memos using ActiveNotes, set events and meetings on the calendar, and once you get your hands on a USB cord, the whole lot can be synchronised with your PC. Theres also a dedicated switch function that changes the mobile phones home screen between business and personal modes. It allows you to access many functions speedily.
